Sami Sadat Recruits Afghan Generals in Britain, Hollywood Mistakes Them for Cast

The liberation of Kabul entered pre-production after twelve generals requested executive producer credits.

Sami Sadat recruited twelve generals in Britain. Hollywood offered them roles in Tropic Thunder II. Negotiations collapsed when nobody agreed to play a soldier.

LONDON—Sami Sadat began distributing ranks from his British home, recruiting Afghans who watched Rambo III and decided Kabul must be liberated by someone currently closer to it.

One film earned a colonel’s rank. The franchise earned a general’s. An officer who watched Hot Shots! became intelligence chief.

“We are building a professional army,” Sadat said, moving a laundry basket so northern command could sit down.

Training began with a dramatic entrance. Panjshir’s commander kicked open the kitchen door, struck Helmand’s commander and requested another take.

The officers agreed Kabul must fall during the summer holidays. A brigadier demanded a stunt double, explaining that his mother had approved acting, not Afghanistan.

“My family crossed six countries,” another said. “I’m not going back without an IMDb credit.”

Sadat said soldiers would be recruited inside Afghanistan. Britain would supply generals, trailers and reliable broadband.

A recruit’s mother interrupted to order the northern commander to take the bins out. Sadat attempted to intervene and was told to take the recycling.

Hollywood director Ben Stiller then called about Tropic Thunder II. Sadat offered twelve generals. Stiller asked whether any could play soldiers.

Nobody accepted demotion.

The Taliban offered to play themselves, provided Zal plays Khalilzad.

General Alizai requested stunt double named Hebatullah to play the last commander standing.
